ACCOMPLISHMENTS
| • The TCQAE sponsored Arts Education Day at the Capitol (http://www.artseducationday.org) every Legislative year since 1997. • The TCQAE created the Texas Fine Arts Education ACCORD, defining “Quality” arts education. • The TCQAE along with TMEA published a study of every middle and high school in Texas that concluded that schools with a higher number of students enrolled in the fine arts had higher attendance, fewer drop-outs, and higher SAT scores. • The TCQAE produced the Teach Us! song. • The TCQAE created the arts advocacy PowerPoint presentation Teaching All Children to be SmARTer Through the ARTS! The TCQAE continued our support of the Texas Music Project (TMP) and Don’t Mess with Texas Music CD series (www.texasmusicproject.com). • The TCQAE created the Indicators of Quality Fine Arts Programs: Elementary Schools which will be used to award schools with exceptional programs. • The TCQAE created the Survey of Arts Education in Texas along with TMAC and TMEA. This survey will be a real-time survey of the status of arts education. The survey includes: staffing, budget, funding, activity fees, stipends, type of scheduling, enrollment, field trip policy, etc. • The TCQAE helped organize several K-16 Summits with the University of Texas, Austin (UTA). • The TCQAE is working with the Texas Music Educators Association to create a Legislative Plan and to create a grassroots effort to gain support for arts education. • The TCQAE is applying to become the Texas Affiliate of the Kennedy-Center Alliance for Arts Education Network. |
